- Learning To Write
- Core curriculum
- First grade
- October to July
Once your child has completed the letter tracing workbook, have him or her practice writing each school day. Start with very brief requirements (one sentence) and gradually increase to a paragraph or more by the end of the year.
The content of the writing doesn't matter at this stage; you may choose to dictate sentences out of a book, or allow your child to make up silly rhymes or compose letters to family members. Don't focus overly much on spelling. The priority is to allow the child to practice and ensure that correct letter formation is learned.
Use lined paper produced specifically for beginning writers for all writing this year. The large space and middle guideline helps children remember correct mechanics.
